‘Controlled Flooding’..?

We have already posted a story about a dam on the blog.  This second story couldn’t be any different though!

The people of Townsville might be slightly upset that that the gates of the Ross River dam have been fully opened due to heavy and prolonged rainfall…

Questions to consider…

  1. What are the benefits of flooding the residential areas of Townsville?
  2. Is this an example of hard or soft engineering along a river?
  3. Do you think insurance companies will pay out claims made by locals whose homes have been flooded?  Why?
