Fracking grinds to a halt

It appears that despite a commitment from the UK Government to try and diversify our energy mix, their rules and regulations are hampering companies who are trying to extract the energy from its source.

Cuadrilla were the first company to be given a fracking license for a very long time in the UK.  Unfortunately, it appears that the guidelines they are made to follow by the Government means that they have only been able to access 5% of the shale gas they are drilling for.

Questions to consider…

  1. Why are there such tight rules and regulations surrounding the process of fracking in the UK?
  2. What does the UK need to diversify its energy mix?
  3. To save all of this trouble, why doesn’t the government in vest more heavily in renewable energies such as wind or solar power?
